Here are some Q&A's that will help you prepare for your massage so you can have the best, streamlined experience!

Walk me through a typical session

Therapist will arrive 15-20 min before your appointment, allowing for set-up time and to provide a brief consultation to allow client to communicate problem areas, pressure during massage and answer any questions. Therapist will then leave to a designated area so client can prepare for the session. Therapist will enter massage area to begin session with confirmation from client. Afterwards, therapist will communicate end of session and leave client in privacy until he/she is ready for a short debriefing of the session. Finally payment will be collected, therapist will collect massage equipment and leave residence.

What do I wear for the massage, and do I have to take any clothes off for the session, and how exposed will I be during massage?

Massage therapy is most effective when the therapist can contact the skin and muscles directly, as this allows the therapist to feel for any problem areas more accurately, avoid massage oil/gel getting on clothes, creates a continuous experience and transfers heat to the muscles better, which enhances relaxation. Undress to your level of comfort, most clients completely undress, but you can leave underwear on if you would like. All private areas will be completely covered during entire session.

Is there talking during the session?

It is up to you, some clients like to talk during the session, others don't and some fall asleep from the relaxation. Especially for clients that come for specific pain issues, therapist may check in during the session to gain feedback and provide the best therapy.

Is there anything I need to do after the massage to keep/enhance the benefits and are there negative effects?

It is a good idea to drink water right after and during the course of the day to aid body in expelling any waste products/toxins from released stress and tension. This helps reduce the chances of getting a short-lived head ache from the toxins, as your body can get rid of them faster. It is best to take it easy the rest of the day because in some clients, the release of natural endorphins and reduced tension leads to their bodies going into recharge, recovery mode for the whole day. This could be because the constant adrenaline from stress most are exposed day after day keeps body from resting and relaxing, and massage is like a catalyst that neutralizes the stress and forces body to finally get that needed recharge. Finally, come get at least one massage per month for regular maintenance. Incorporating massage into your lifestyle will increase the longevity of your muscles and connective tissues, and reduce overall stress, allowing you to live to the fullest into old age.
